Eight days ago TeriLand held just over a hundred places in eleven countries. We are at 254 now, across 27 countries. The week went into filling the north and east of the map, which were awkwardly empty. And since the map is getting busy, you can now browse all of it another way: country by country, or by mood.
Where the 254 places are
France keeps the lead with 51 places, Spain and Germany follow on 28, the United Kingdom on 24. The real change is elsewhere: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Greece, Portugal and Ireland have just arrived. Fourteen countries in one go.

Eight categories, from big coasters to indoor pools
Every place belongs to one of eight families of day out: theme park, amusement park, water park, zoo, aquarium, leisure park, indoor activity centre, resort. Zoos come first with 62 places, ahead of theme parks (56), amusement parks (55) and water parks (48). Nobody chose that order, it comes out of what Europe has built. And Europe has built a lot of slides.
Searching without the map
The map is unbeatable at one question: what is within an hour's drive of me. It is much less handy when you start from a mood. Nobody wants to drag a finger across Spain hunting for its water parks. Hence the other route. Click Spain and everything it holds comes up. Click water parks and you see where they are. And the two cross: the water parks of Spain fit on a single page.
Every place has one of its own: what there is to see, who it suits, the town, photos, the official website and the phone number. A link reopens the map centred on it. Send it to whoever you like, it reads as it is.

The destinations page gathers all 27 countries and their place counts. You can see what is covered, and above all what is not: a country that fits into two places stands out in a second. Not exactly flattering for us, but it is honest, and it tells us where to work next.
What comes next
The next big step takes us outside Europe. North America and Asia hold parks people have been talking about for years, the Mediterranean rim has enough to fill a whole summer, and all of it will end up on the map. We will announce each country the day it is ready, rather than a date: they will arrive with something to say for themselves.
In the meantime the work goes on place by place: one more photo, a description that really says what you will see, one more park in a region we thought was covered. That is what turns a list of names into a map you would actually set off with on a Sunday. Every page carries a link to report an error, and those reports move us faster than anything else: they come before the rest.
